THE EARL B. GILLIAM BAR ASSOCIATION SENDS ITS CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL BROWN AND THE IN FERGUSON, MISSOURI COMMUNITY
San Diego, CA – The Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association is deeply disturbed that the Grand Jury in Ferguson, Missouri, after considering the evidence in the shooting death of Michael Brown, reached the conclusion that Darren Wilson should not be indicted and tried for the death of Michael Brown. Our thoughts are with the family of Michael Brown who lost a loved one and the community of Ferguson that is still mourning this preventable death.
While we share in the frustration of many, we ask those displaying their displeasure with the decision to organize in a peaceful and legal manner. We join with the position of other Bar Associations in calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to pursue federal charges against Officer Darren Wilson.
The Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association remains steadfast in its commitment to educate and inform San Diego residents of their constitutional rights when interacting with members of law enforcement. This year we have worked with San Diego’s Chief of Police Shelley Zimmerman in an attempt to improve the relationship between the police force and the San Diego community. We will continue to strive to hold all those who perpetrate harm upon our community accountable for their actions and we will pursue all possible means to avoid occurrences of such harm. We must all come together as a community to work together to ensure that those in positions of power do not abuse their privilege.
